Dynamic Image Creation
We regularly build Content Management Systems (CMS) for websites so that our clients can update content of their website on their own. This typically works great and allows clients to add/edit/delete text,images,video,ads, etc.
The one are that we find cumbersome is when a website requires a graphical title image to facilitate a font that is not web-safe. To accomplish this the person responsible for updating site content would have to use PhotoShop to create the textual image and upload it via the CMS. To optimize this process we explored techniques for creating images dynamically on the server. Using PHP and the GD library we have successfully been able to generate images with text content that uses non-websafe fonts. The images can either be used on the fly as they are generated, or saved to the server for later use.
